Colleague of the month: Dan

Written by Kim

Fun is never far away at Dan, and that's exactly what makes customer service work so much fun. Whether it's solving a difficult question from a member, laughing together with colleagues or crawling behind the laptop dressed as a bunch of grapes: Dan tackles it all with pleasure. In this blog Dan tells us how he ended up at WebwinkelKeur, what Dan's favorite memories are, what you can wake Dan up for in the middle of the night and which dream destination is high on his list. Curious? Then read on!

Dan, who are you, what is your job title and how did you end up at WebwinkelKeur?

I'm Dan (pronouns who and them) and I'm 27 years old. I'm one of the customer service employees.

How I ended up at WebwinkelKeur is actually pure coincidence, namely through the recommendation of my old internship supervisor! After my studies, I found out that what I had studied for didn't really suit me that well. I quit my job and increased my hours at my part-time job at the cinema for a few months, and decided to only apply for jobs that I liked, whether I qualified for them or not.

Actually, I already had another job pretty much lined up when my former internship supervisor forwarded the job posting for this one. I liked it so much that I decided to respond. Then it turned out that the vacancy here was actually already filled. We had decided to do an introductory interview anyway, "just in case." A week later, I got a call in the morning from the other job saying they couldn't actually offer me the hours I needed, so the party there was off. In the afternoon I got a call from WebwinkelKeur that they had a position available for me after all. So there was a party!

What is your favorite memory of WebwinkelKeur?

I have many fond memories of WebwinkelKeur, so this is a difficult choice! One of the first that comes to mind is the team outing to our colleagues in Bulgaria. Other colleagues have already mentioned this one, but it was a really nice time where we also laughed a lot together. We still talk about it often, too. In addition, Halloween at the office will always stay with me, because Kim and I dressed up as bunches of grapes then, made with balloons. How we were still productive that workday is a mystery, because we could barely sit in it.

What can we wake you up in the middle of the night for?

For a lot! I'm not the tricky one, so you can just wake me up if you need me. I also don't say no to good food or drinks, a cozy time with friends or to watch something live that I'm a fan of, for example. Sleep can catch up with you, memories can't!

If you could organize a team outing, what would you most like to do?

I think it would be really cool to go to a rage room with the team, where we get to smash everything. Not only do I think it would be really funny, but also to let out all the work frustrations.

What makes your work within WebwinkelKeur so much fun?

Also a typical answer with us, but the colleagues. Not only can we always rely on each other and help each other, but there is also room for sociability and laughing together. It's okay if someone is not feeling well. You can just be yourself here, and that's great.

At work I really enjoy helping people. For example, if you receive an e-mail that someone is really struggling, and you can tell them what they can try or do. When you then get a response that they figured it out thanks to you, I really enjoy hearing that!

What is your dream destination?

Japan is one of my dream destinations. I have been fascinated by the culture and nature since I was a child, it seems wonderful to be able to see this in real life. Also, there are many things I am a fan of that are Japanese. Of course, the food is also not to be missed, and friends who have already been all say it's really recommended as well. Hopefully I will go next year!

If you were an animal, what animal would you have been?

An owl! I get all alive when it gets dark and am actually a real night owl as well. Unfortunately there is little room for that in my current routine, but if possible I prefer to stay up longer. Also, an animal that stands for both wisdom and stupidity suits me well. People sometimes say I am smart, but I often feel stupid myself. Nothing wrong with that of course, that way you keep learning things.
