About us History
Affordable & Innovative quality mark
The history of WebwinkelKeur began in 2010, when we started out as a protest against existing quality marks. On the one hand, we see expensive quality marks that are unaffordable for start-ups, and on the other hand, we see cheap quality marks without much added value. We also found it unfortunate that no quality mark integrated customer reviews into the quality mark in order to check the reliability of its members not only on paper, but also in practice.
Free webshop quality mark
WebwinkelKeur starts as a completely free quality mark. The goal is to cover costs in the future through partners. In the first few years, there was a lot of interest due to the free nature of the quality mark. However, we noticed that the quality was not always as good as it could be. Online stores that register often do not meet our requirements, and online stores that stop trading do not notify us. From the beginning of 2012, we therefore decided to raise the bar for members by charging an annual membership fee.
Further development
Because the membership fee also created opportunities to improve the quality mark, there were many technical innovations in the following years. In 2013, we introduced WebwinkelKeur PLUS, which made it possible to invite customers to share their customer reviews. This also made WebwinkelKeur a fully-fledged customer review tool. We also introduced JavaScript integration, which made it possible to verify the authenticity of the quality mark within the webshop itself.
From mid-2015, the entire WebwinkelKeur software was updated. Members were given a completely new management tool with numerous possibilities. This made WebwinkelKeur a pioneer in the industry; this software is therefore continuously being further developed.
Europe
The e-commerce landscape was becoming increasingly international. That is why we also wanted to help our members with international business, which we did, among other things, by joining the EMOTA quality mark in 2015. This made us the first and only party to bring a fully-fledged international quality mark to the Netherlands. Since March 2014, we have also been active in Spain under the name eValor.es. After the EMOTA quality mark was discontinued in January 2020, we now use the European quality mark ValuedShops
Acquisitions of quality marks and review systems
In addition to the primary natural growth in the number of members, we have also made several acquisitions in recent years, namely:
• 2014: Acquisition of Friendlyshops
• 2014: Acquisition of Keurmerk Veilig Winkelen
• 2015: Acquisition of Klantenscores.nl
• 2017: Acquisition of EuroSafeShop
