You deal with them every day. Reviews! Nice, funny, not so nice, unfair, and even fake reviews are sometimes posted. We are proud to be part of this wonderful process, but sometimes there is more to it than that.
A new law as of May 28, 2022
Here it is! A new law that aims to ensure that all reviews are genuine. And that is, of course, positive news 😊 Nobody wants to receive or read fake reviews. On May 28, 2022, new rules for reviews will come into effect. You can read more about this in this blog. You may already know this, but fake reviews are not only written by consumers. Unfortunately, it sometimes happens that online retailers post fake reviews (or have them posted). This will finally come to an end! The new law is intended to ensure that both online retailers and consumers are better protected. Do you use our review system? Below you can read what we do to collect only honest reviews, and what you can do to collect honest reviews.
What do we do to combat fake reviews?
We use a Fake Review system The new law is yet to come into effect, but we are already familiar with fake reviews. That is why we have a system that detects fake reviews. Our starting point is that all reviews must be honest, so that consumers have an accurate picture of an online store. If there are fake reviews, consumers will get a distorted picture of the online store. And that is, of course, a no-go! We ask your customer to verify their review After your customer has placed an order, we send an email asking for a review. This way, we can be sure that a 'real' customer is writing the review. These reviews also state that the customer is verified. The customer must therefore be an existing customer who has purchased something from you or used your service(s). Reviews can also be written via your member page. After writing a review, the customer will receive a verification email. If the customer is not a real customer, you can submit a moderation request. We will then investigate whether the review is indeed a fake review. If so, we will remove it. We have drawn up conditions that a review must meet. In our terms of use, we explain what we expect from a review and what may happen if your customer does not comply with these conditions. For example, we ask the customer if the review can be modified. But if it is a fake review that was not written by a real customer, you can count on us. We do not distinguish between negative and positive reviews. A customer leaves a low review even though you are doing your best to provide the best service! We understand that it is sometimes unfair. And it is also completely logical that you would prefer to receive only positive reviews. Consumers are entitled to share their experiences, even if this sometimes causes disappointment for the online retailer. You can read how best to deal with this here. An important part of the new law is that, as a retailer, you must show that all reviews are published. This includes the nice and positive ones, but also the less nice and negative ones. That is why we publish all reviews!Only the consumer and we (WebwinkelKeur) can edit a review Honesty is the best policy! That is why you, as an online retailer, cannot edit a review yourself. The consumer can edit the review themselves. Or we can do this if the review does not meet our conditions. We always do this in consultation with the consumer.

Our review system allows you to customize the text in your invitation email. You can also offer this outside of our system, on social media for example. You might think this is a fun way to collect reviews. After all, your customer gets something in return. However well-intentioned this may be, we advise against doing so.
