Gugulethu from webshop Hlelaroyalwines.co.uk

Who are the merchants behind the webshops and what are their stories? Meet WebwinkelKeur member Gugulethu, who sells authentic South African royal wines in her webshop hlelaroyalwines.nl.

How long has your webshop existed and why did you start back then?

We have been up and running for two years. My aunt is a true Zulu princess (yes, related!) and decided to start producing wine years ago. South Africa has a dynamic history and a lot is being done to get women and the natives into business as well. We are three generations of Zulu women in wine. The web shop is my way of showcasing our wines, telling our story and, of course, selling the wines!

What is the biggest challenge for you as a webshop owner?

As a webshop you don't really have any real contact with people, except when there is necessary phone,- or email contact with customers. That is why we put a lot of effort into events and tastings, where everyone is welcome to taste our wines and the real African atmosphere. One of the ways to reach our customers is through the newsletter.

Why are you a member of WebwinkelKeur?

Our main focus in service and customer trust is a seal of approval. As an entrepreneur, I want to be busy with my wine. A hallmark organization like WebwinkelKeur ensures that I don't have to think about the legal developments and what legal requirements there are. This keeps my webshop in good health and allows me to build on a strong relationship with my customers.

What do you like most about running your webshop?

Enjoying my wine and telling our story: Zulu women in wine in Europe! Also the variety when there are new varieties, and with the events coming up. Then I am always busy surprising the customers with nice promotions and actions. I notice that this makes people very happy and then they are very eager to taste and buy my wine.

What is your top tip for other merchants?

Make sure your service is at the highest level, make it personal. Show them who you are and what your heritage is. That's what customers love. Use labels and certifications for your products and be open and honest about it! Try to collaborate with colleagues in your industry. See each other as colleagues and not competitors.
